Lawson Koeppel, LCSW

I work with individuals and couples who are trying to change patterns, understand who they are, and make meaning out of what, at times, feels like chaos.

My experience includes working with folks who faced combat, sexual assault, struggles with substance use, abuse from loved ones, and a culture that attacks them for simply existing (Queer, BIPOC, Neurodiverse, Sex Workers, and more). Whoever you are, every bit of you is welcome here.

In-person and video appointments are available.

About me.

I came to this profession after spending much of my life on the other side of the desk. I know what it’s like to feel out of place, out of control, and out of options—because I’ve been there. I also recognize that every journey is unique. My role is to guide you in finding your own path forward. My practice is deeply rooted in this hard-earned wisdom, and it’s enriched by the training and professional experience I’ve gained along the way.

My work.

The alphabet soup of manualized therapies works for many, and I’ve found that true transformation often begins when clients step beyond those structured approaches. The therapeutic relationship is at the heart of my work. From there, clients may find themselves exploring different parts of their psyche, setting boundaries with substances, conversing with lost loved ones, or even finding gratitude in long-held pain. Each outcome and process is as unique as the individuals I see, and my approach is always grounded in the principles of liberation. Developing skills in weekly sessions is valuable, but when the world feels like it’s on fire, you need more than a breathing exercise—you need a bucket of water.

Relationships

Over time, even the deepest relationships see rupture. These moments are crucial. If we choose to turn towards each other with curiosity and vulnerability, the relationship can actually get stronger. If, instead, we fall into contempt and defensiveness, maintaining connection becomes harder.

I welcome people from a wide spectrum of dynamics, including: Monogamy, Polyamory, Ethical Non-Monogamy, BDSM, and Situationships. My practice is Sex-Positive, Kink-informed, and Queer allied.

Veterans

I have extensive experience working with those who have served in the military. I understand the unique challenges you face, including PTSD, moral injury, military sexual trauma, loss of meaning and purpose, and the difficulty of readjusting to civilian life. If you’re looking for a place where you can speak openly about what you can’t share with the rest of the world, you’ve found it.
